Research abstract

The proposed effort will develop a virtual prototyping tool that can be used to design equipment which protects the individual from ballistic insult, penetrating wounds, blunt trauma, and crushing injuries. In addition, the developed tool will support design of the spaces in which individuals work, live, and travel. The first task investigates providing improved models of protective equipment. In the second task anthropometry and joint motion fidelity requirements are delineated. The third task provides a plan to input mass properties and kinematic constraints between joint. Also, stability or balance algorisms will be investigated along with methodologies to address spatial interaction with the work space. In the fourth tasks a plan to incorporate advanced projectile penetration algorithms under development by MRC for ARPR will rendered as well as plan to improve blunt trauma modeling. MRC in consonsance with the Government will identify desired computer platforms and a software environment for visual implementation of the virtual prototyping system and provide a plan for visual implementation. A roadmap for phase II development of the proposed tool and an object oriented simulation architecture which supports rapid prototyping will be provided in Task 5.
