Research abstract

CURRENT EEG AND EP DEVICES DO NOT ADEQUATELY DETECT AND ELIMINATE ARTIFACTUAL CONTAMINANTS. WHEN USED BY CLINICIANSNOT EXPERT IN QUANTITATIVE NEUROPHYSIOLOGY, ERRONEOUS RESULTS CAN BE PRODUCED, LEADING TO MISDIAGNOSIS AND RESULTING IN ERRORS IN TREATMENT. AUTOMATED EEG ARTIFACT DETECTION ALGORITHMS WILL BE DEVELOPED, VALIDATED, AND LICENSED TO MANUFACTURERS OF EEG AND EVOKED-POTENTIAL (EP) ANALYSIS SYSTEMS. EFFECTIVE CONTAMINANT DETECTION WILL REDUCE A MAJOR SOURCE OF MISINTERPRETATION OF THE RESULTS OF CURRENT EEG AND EP ANALYSIS SYSTEMS USED IN MONITORING PSYCHIATRIC AND NEUROLOGICAL PATIENTS.
