Research abstract
RBD Government Systems LLC (RBD) proposed to develop a mular, man-in-the-loop, virtual simulation system for the Force XXI soldier. The system will be designed to simulate and stimulate such Force XXI soldier systems as the Land Warrior system, the Objective Individual Combatant Weapon (OICW) and Combat Identification (CID). The purpose of the system is to provide modeling and simulation technology to facilitate advanced prototyping, analysis of alternatives, mission rehearsal and training. The multi-sensory, simulation system will be PC-based and will be compliant with the High Level Architecture (HLA). Part of the Phase I effort will be to conduct a feasibility analysis to examine which Force XXI soldier systems gain rmximim benefit from simulation technology. Based on this analysis combined with a review of current and past approaches, RBD will design and develop the architecture for the Force XXI Soldier Virtual Simulator. To demonstrate the feasibility of building an actual simulation system based on this architecture, RBD will prototype a module frm the architecture to simulate and stimulate a Land Warrior system. The architecture developed in Phase I will provide the framework and will facilitate the construction of an actual simulation system in Phase II. BENEFITS: The proposed simulation system will: support law enforcement for hostage rescue, anti-terrorist and crime-fighting activities; be used in entertainment as a networked, individual and team gain such as t the Army OSCR Program by reducing the dependency on expensive military maneuvers and live-fire range munitions.
