Research abstract

WE PROPOSE TO INVESTIGATE NEW TYPES OF MATERIALS AND METHODS FOR SENSOR APPLICATIONS. THE PROPOSED INVESTIGATION WILL EXPLORE AND DEVELOP NOVEL APPROACHES FOR THE APPLICATION OF POLYMERIC MATERIALS TO SENSOR TECHNOLOGY. OF PARTICULAR INTEREST ARE MATERIALS THAT CAN PERFORM SEVERAL FUNCTIONS FOR A SPECIFIC DEVICE. THE FOCUS OF THIS WORK WILL BE ON CHEMICAL SENSOR TECHNOLOGY, BUT OUR APPROACH IS SUFFICIENTLY GENERAL THAT IT MAY BE ADAPTED TO OTHER SENSOR TECHNOLOGIES. WE WILL INVESTIGATE ALTERNATIVE DEVICE ARCHITECTURES AS WELL AS IDENTIFY DESIRED MATERIALS PROPERTIES. WE WILL ALSO SURVEY EXISTING MATERIALS AS CANDIDATES FOR SPECIFIC CHEMICAL SENSOR DEVICES AND APPLICATIONS.
