Research abstract
Handheld stand-off chemical agent detection is the next step in a line of research dating back 30 years. Technology has advanced to the point where reasonable designs for Infrared Spectrometers to remotely introgate chemical agents from very smallpackages can be considered. The incremental, adaptive engineering to move from man-portable systems to hand-held operation requires careful consideration of operational use, design limits of optics, solid-state components, and human factors. The Phase I SBIR provides the scopenecessary for sucessful research project towards these goals.
