Research abstract
Wind blades are complex constructions of composite materials. As with all composite structures, forming joints between the various elements has long been problematic, since composites cannot easily be bolted, fastened, or welded together. Current manufacturing methods result in thick adhesive layers that have varying dimensions and which are the most common failure area in wind blades during operation in the field.
