Research abstract

A large majority of the US Department of Defense (DoD) contested logistics operations would benefit from the ability to deliver Twenty-foot Equivalent (TEU) sized shipping container payloads through space. Outpost’s flight-proven solution will make possible the delivery of TEU-sized Space Payload Environmental Containers (SPEC) to anywhere on Earth within 60 minutes and 5 meters accuracy. For this work Outpost’s proposed Shielding Technology for Exoatmospheric Experiments and Payloads (STEEP) program aims to evaluate and analyze deployable heat shield systems for the Rocket Cargo Vanguard Program, culminating in the development of a subscale prototype forrigorous laboratory testing. This includes the design of a robust deployment subsystem and a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) prototype. At the conclusion of the program, comprehensive analysis, testing, and design reports, along with a full-scale hardware mockup of the deployable heat shield, will be delivered to the Rocket Cargo program.
