Research abstract

This program develops multi-spectral concepts for air induction system, effluent ducts and exhaust systems for diesel powered ships and turbine powered ships. The preliminary designs consider signature, weight, cost, and environmental impacts on the retrofit of existing ships with these systems. Specimen panels are tested to determine acoustic, thermal, visual and radar performance. Data from specimen tests are included in preliminary design analyses. Concepts are presented at a Preliminary Design Review with implementation of a full scale proof of concept demonstrator and a full scale hot flow test of the exhaust system.
