Research abstract

THE HISPANIC HEALTH AND NUTRITION EXAMINATION SURVEY (HHANES) CONTAINS A WEALTH OF INFORMATION FOR THE CANCER RESEARCH PROFESSIONAL. THE UTILITY OF THIS DATA BASE CAN BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED BY PROVIDING A SIMPLE USER INTERFACE SOFTWARE PACKAGE THAT CONVERTS THE DATA INTO USABLE INPUT FOR A COMMERCIAL RELATIONAL DATA BASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (RDBMS). ONCE THE HHANES DATA HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO THE FORMAT REQUIRED, RESEARCHERS, WHO ARE NOT COMPUTER EXPERTS, CAN BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE THROUGH THE USER-FRIENDLY LANGUAGE OF THE COMMERCIAL RDBMS TO PURSUE THEIR DATA ANALYSIS. ORACLE, THE SELECTED RDBMS PACKAGE, WILL ALLOW THE SUBSEQUENT DATA ANALYSIS TO BE PERFORMED ON A LARGE VARIETY OF COMPUTERS RANGING FROM MAINFRAMES TO PERSONAL COMPUTERS.
