Research abstract
In this proposal, a system capable of identifying potential conflicts of aircraft flying outside commercial flight corridors is investigated. The essence of the problem is in database management: store, retrieve, process, and display international commercial aircraft flight corridor data, and identify instances of non-adherence. The three fundamental technologies necessary to build such a system span the areas of databases, efficient information processing, and displays. Flight data, airspace corridor data, and map data provide for the inputs to the system, and computer processing allows for path-corridor correlations, proximity management information, and graphics objects. For user input and control, a workstation keyboard, monitor, and computer mouse complete the system, with a 3D perspective display acting as the primary interface.
