Research abstract

A CFD methodology is proposed, based on the grid oversetting approach, that will assess both control fin gap effects and the presence of the actuator post. The chimera method is technically mature and perfectly suited to the ultimate goal of au During Phase I, the proposed approach will be demonstrated for a fin configuration to be chosen in consultation with NAWC and Hughes Missile Systems, and for which benchmark-quality data exists. A range of fin deflection angles will be computed to identif During Phase II, the CFD technology will be incorporated into an integrated, GUI-based, design/analysis/optimization tool focused on increasing engineering productivity in the missile design environment.
