Research abstract
At the end of Phase I a software code implementing a prototype version of a system for real-time analysis of electromagnetic wave propagating in space and along the surface of an aircraft will be delivered. The computations will be performed on a virtual aircraft representing an actual aircraft in electronic format. The delivered prototype version will be capable of performing in real-time such tasks as determination of wave propagation paths, computation of related surface diffraction characteristics, evaluation of antenna-to-aircraft and antenna-to-antenna interactions, as well as a visual display of the aircraft and propagation paths. Currently, there is no comparable computational system that can perform the above tasks in such generality. Computational algorithms in the system will be based on novel approaches to surface and spatial ray-tracing resulting high-performance codes. The system will also include a graphic, user-friendly, interface with fully automated data import and export utilities. The prototype version of the system will demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of a new tool for analysis and prediction of electromagnetic scattering effects.
