Research abstract

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PHASE I EFFORT IS TO DEVELOP AND DEMONSTRATE INNOVATIVE HARDWARE TO IMPLEMENT SPECIFIC ROLLBACK AND TIMING FUNCTIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFICIENT QUEUE MANAGEMENT AND PRECISION TIMEKEEPING IN MULTIPROCESSOR DISRETE EVENT SIMULATION. IPT PROPOSES TO BREADBOARD MULTIPLE CUSTOM VME BOARDS, REFERRED TO AS QUEUEING ELEMENTS(QE'S) AND A GLOBAL VIRTUAL TIME (GVT) MODULE, TO SUPPORT LARGE SCALE DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATIONS. A TEST STAND WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FEASIBILITY OF IMPLEMENTING A ROLLBACK,VERY LOW OVERHEAD, STATE SAVING MECHANISM ON INTEGRATED VME MODULES FOR APPLICATION WITH A HYPERCUBE MULTIPROCESSOR.
