Research abstract

We propose both a new metric for assessing the efficiency of compression algorithms and a novel compression technique that preserves the detection related features of lofargrams and correlograms. The new metric and algorithm are necessary because traditional methods are inappropriate for these IUSS products due to their second order statistics. Our approach preserves the detection and classification information while providing the potential to achieve the desired compression ratio.
