Research abstract

Mission Research Corporation (MRC) proposes the investigation of computational methods which would simplify the design of custom absorber arrangement within an anechoic chamber without the need for extensive measurements. The principal goal of this effort is to reduce the time necessary for test set-up. This would reduce the test cost as well as allow better utilization of existing Air Force facilities. Such a computational Radio Frequency (RF) environment simulator will enable the operator to optimize the placement of the System Under Test (SUT) arrangement of custom Radar Absorbing Material (RAM), RF sources, etc. The normal trial-and-error absorber/SUT placement exercises would be conducted with a computational electromagnetics and in their application to real-world engineering problems as well as anechoic chamber design and use. In Phase I of this project, MRC will conduct a feasibility study in which software, hardware and system component trade studies will be performed. Also, MRC will demonstrate a proof-of-concept which will illustrate the potential of the chosen configuration. At the end of Phase I, the results of the various trade studies will e documented for Phase II implementation and validation of the chosen software/hardware system.
