Research abstract

THIS PHASE I PROGRAM IS DIRECTED TOWARD THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DIMETHYL SILICONE MEMBRANE SYSTEM CAPABLE OF REMOVING WATER VAPOR FROM COMPRESSED AIR AT 125 PSIG, 122 F, TO YIELD DRY AIR WITH A - 40 FEQUIVALENT DEW POINT. A LABORATORY-SCALE PROTOTYPE WILL BE FABRICATED AND EVALUATED TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF THE CONCEPT TO DEVELOP A SHIPBOARD DEHYDRATION SYSTEM THAT IS COMPACT, HAS NO MOVING PARTS OR POWER REQUIREMENTS, OTHER THAN A SUPPLY OF AIR FROM A SHIPBOARD COMPRESSOR. THE SYSTEM WILL BE MAINTENANCE FREE AND NO ADVERSE EFFECTS WILL OCCUR FROM LOSS OF POWER TO THE COMPRESSOR SYSTEM. COMPLETE EFFICIENCY OF THIS DEHYDRATOR WILL RESUME WITHIN A FEW SECONDS FOLLOWING RESTORATION OF POWER.
