Research abstract

A new emphasis in naval oceanography requires the use of a graphical user interface based software tool which seamlessly integrates the multifaceted functionality required to process, archive, interactively explore, visualize, and analyze remotely sensed oceanographic data. This proposed research effort will build on a working prototype that is currently in use at the Naval Research Laboratory's (NRL) Backgrounds Data Center. The prototype system is known as "The Visual Interface for Space and Terrestrial Analysis" or VISTA. Phase I will enhance VISTA to read CEOS SAR data files, customize its flat file management system, incorporate a number of image processing capabilities, and allow interfacing with the NRL Satellite Image Processing System.
