Research abstract

THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS AIMED AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTEGRATED MATHEMATICAL MODEL CAPABLE OF PREDICTION OF OVERFLOW IN LARGE BODIES OF WATER DUE TO EFFECTS OF HIGH WIND VELOCITIES AND PRESSURE GRADIENTS ON THE SURFACE IN CASE OF HURRICANES. THE INTEGRATED MODEL COMPRISES ACCEPTABLE HURRICANE AND HYDRO-THERMAL MODELS. AN INTERFACEMODEL WILL BE DEVELOPED TO COUPLE BETWEEN THE TWO MODELS. THE HURRICANE MODEL PREDICTS THE WIND VELOCITY AND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION. THE HYDROTHERMAL MODEL PREDICTS THE WATER CURRENT VELOCITIES, SURFACE ELEVATION AND TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IN LARGE SHALLOW WATERS. THE INTEGRATED MODEL CAN BE SOLVED USING NUMERICAL TECHNIQUES ON A HIGH SPEED DIGITAL COMPUTER. THE OUTPUT OF THE SIMULATION WOULD DETERMINE THE POTENTIAL AND LOCATION OF OVERFLOW IN CASE OF HURRICANES OR OTHER NATURAL HAZARD INVOLVING HIGH SPEED ROTATING WIND AND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION ON THE LARGE BODY OFWATER.
