Research abstract

Not Available Load-base implementation of CBM systems on board ships and in the industry will largely depend on the improvements in the CBM subsystem (hardware, data acquisition software and algorithm), the methods for integration of CBM hardware with machine components and CBM system affordability. The proposed work in this proposal focuses on an approach that will result in a very simple CBM system and thus CBM's increased affordability and reliability. Our approach will allow simple integration of the CBM sensors with existing machines and ultimately an inherent integration of sensors with basic machine components (e.g. bearing, shafts, gears) and consequently, the development of smart machine components. In either case, the impact of the proposed technology will be in substantially reducing the cost of integrating sensors with machines and machine components. Phase I of this project will investigate and demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed technology through analytical and experimental work. During Phase II, we will develop and demonstrate the operation and benefits of the proposed technology as part of a CBM system.
