Research abstract

High performance opto-electrical switches are required for enabling optical control of radar applications such as phased array antennas. Towards this aim, CoreTek Inc. proposes a novel low-cost, monolithically integrated switch with gain that is polarization-independent. CoreTeks proposed device will operate at switching voltages of under 5 V aid provide high speed operation up to 1007Gb/s while allowing various switching configurations such as SPST, SPDT and DPDT. It alleviates the problems of high power and low integrability associated with LiNbO3and semiconductor optical amplifier switches. The proposed device is designed for seamless integration with other components to provide high-performance switching systems suitable for applications such as microwave delay lines for phased array antennas. Phase I of this project will involve identification of the optimum design for the switches through physical modeling and implementing the design to fabricate a functional device.
