Research abstract
This phase II proposal is being submitted to Naval Air WarfareCenter, in response to an invitation following the phase Icontract N68335-01-C-0004. We propose a phase II effort tocontinue the research and development of an integrated missileseeker signal-processor (IMSSP). Target acquisition and trackingare the essential tasks of seeker processing for autonomousguidance. The computational complexity of automatic targetrecognition (ATR) involved in the two tasks was the main technicalhurdle of this project. Through phase I effort, we developed apractical solution of the problem via a GPS/INS-guided-ATRalgorithm, and demonstrated the general feasibility of theintegrated missile seeker signal processor. The first objective ofphase II work is to develop a detailed specification for theintegrated signal processor with processing rates consistent withnext generation imagers, compatible with the power and packagingrequirements of the missile seeker, and with sensorexchangeability. Phase II objective also includes developingalgorithms, software, and hardware for seeker informationprocessing, and developing a demonstration of the system throughapplication simulation and evaluation.
