Research abstract

DARPA is interested in demonstrating the capability of freeform fabrication systems to go beyond basic metal materials, such as stainless steel, and build advanced alloy components from CAD files without part-specific tooling or operator intervention. In this Phase I project, Lone Peak proposes to develop a titanium feedstock material and develop the SFF process for two rapid prototyping systems: LOM and FDM. They will use the engineering approach they developed for stainless steel rapid prototyping to design the titanium-based feed stock materials for the LOM and FDM systems.
