THIS IS A PHASE II AWARD CONTINUING R&D EFFORTS TO DEVELOP AA FIELDPORTABLE POLARIZED LIGHT MICROSCOPE. THIS PHASE II EFFORT ENTAILS THE ADDITION OF PHASE CONTRAST OPTICS TO THE PL INSTRUMENT TO PROVIDE COMPLETE ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF ASBESTOS IN THE FIELD. AN IMPORTANT AS- PECT OF THIS PHASE II EFFORT INCLUDES THE FIELD RUGGEDIZING THE INSTRUMENT. A TRAINING MANUAL AND VHS-FORMAN TAPE WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED ON THE INSTRUMENT'S USE.
