Research abstract

With the increasing use of COTS technology in large complex military and commercial systems come higher expectations for the system's capabilities and the time to completion. Given the wide range of available COTS technologies, an environment is needed that uses an innovative approach to requirements capture, systems engineering, and performance analysis. The Simulation-Based Design paradigm uses virtual system prototypes and environments within an integrated design capture and simulation framework to automate the design capture and analysis process. This approach allows designers, analysts, and developers to concurrently develop requirement, analyze design tradeoffs, and design future or enhanced complex systems. Trident will establish an approach for using existing modeling and analysis products to produce an advanced environment for the capture, simulation, and analysis of COTS based system architecture.
