Research abstract

A GPS-based scoring system for tactical missile tests is proposed in this project. The accuracy and data rate requirements for tactical missile scoring will be established based on an analysis of a wide range of air-to-air and/or air-to-surface engagement scenarios. The real-time dynamic processing capabilities of current and future GPS user units will be analyzed to characterize the extent to which the GPS-based missile scoring technique can apply. This will lead to extensive trade studies on C/A-code vs. P-Code, receiver vs. translator, and absolute GPS vs. differential GPS. Advanced processing techniques for position, velocity, and attitude determination as well as schemes for GPS integration with other data sources will be developed to improve GPS accuracy, data rate, and continuity to meet the error budget and performance requirements for tactical missile testing applications. A simulation environment and evaluation tools will also be developed to quantify the system concept, key parameters, and algorithms proposed.
