Research abstract
1. Increased numbers of Canada geese resident in the US negatively affects the health, safety and property of humans. No practical and humane solution is available to mitigate the damage caused by this excess goose population. 2. Innolytics plans to register and market a novel technology to humanely control the population of the Canada goose and mitigate the before mentioned risk. The product to be utilized is nicarbazin. The FDA approved nicarbazin many years ago to treat coccidiosis in chickens, and a side effect in this use, a reduction in the hatchability of eggs laid by treated hens, is the basis for our suggestion that nicarbazin could provide significant infertility effect for avian species. 3. A successful product will require a formulation that provides maximum activity with the minimum dose. 1. Little work has been done to maximize the absorption of nicarbazin, and this outlines studies to provide basic information on the adsorption of DNC that will ultimately useful in developing an effective formulation. 2. We propose to utilize recently developed analytical methods for determinations in rat bile, urine, feces, and mallard eggs. 3. Qualitative absorption studies in a modified rat will provide basic information for formulation development. 4. This formulation development will be applied to mallard ducks with a dose ranging study.
