Research abstract
Radio frequency (R-F) interference is the degradation in the performance of a device, equipment, or a system caused by radio frequency disturbance. Conventional filters on COTS equipment are unable to adequately cope with the R-F interference associated with high frequency, high energy density sources. Of major concern also is the additional weight and space penalty that these mandatory passive components entail. A fundamental breakthrough is desired. Nanomaterials Research Corporation (NRC) proposes an innovative solution that can enable RF mitigation at frequencies between 100 Khz through I 0 GHz (i.e. long wave radio through microwave radio), while also enabling dramatic reduction in weight and size of the passive components. Phase I will establish the proof-of-concept. Phase II will optimize and produce prototype devices using electrostatic printing. Phase III will commercialize the technology. Potential applications include RF mitigation and spectrum conservation on COTS-based equipment for the military and industrial equipment. The technology may also enable prevention of deliberate terrorist EM threats.
