Research abstract
Not Available The proposed effort seeks to address architectural, algorithmic and software issues in developing a diagnostics and prognostics system to support CBM of large complex systems such as Naval platforms and weapon systems. Leveraging our fault modeling and diagnostic tools for onboard health monitoring and interactive troubleshooting and maintenance, and their ongoing integration with a Navy HUMS system, we propose to design and develop a software system that can interface with the existing sensor suite to obtain raw observations of real-time performance parameters, with a CBM database to obtain pre-recorded data, and with human operators to obtain input to determine fault and impending-failure conditions in the target system. In order to extend the current passive onboard diagnostics to collaborative health management with human operators, we will research human-system interfaces (HSI) that best support onboard health monitoring and preventive maintenance. The software module will provide capabilities for preprocessing raw sensor data (via a data-analysis toolbox), parts lifting, and isolating failed or failing system components, while providing human-system interfaces for feeding back appropriate health data (to operators), and usage and troubleshooting data (to maintainers). The Phase I design and prototype development will be carried forward in Phase II to the full development, testing, and integration stages
