Research abstract
Not Available The Navy's aircraft simulators are a complex and diverse set of systems with unique data models, varied timing schemes, and different hardware architectures, all of which must be accommodated in order to achieve interoperability through HLA. This proposal presents an experience-based, federation engineering approach that exploits lessons learned in previous, successful programs involving similar techniques and technologies. The interoperability solution proposed lies in the use of a number of existing elements applied across the problem domain. These include: Object Model Repositories, Agile FOM mapping tools, DDM tools, middleware, gateways, and federation planning, monitoring, and analysis tools that support the Federation Development and Execution Process (FEDEP) model. We present a framework within which interoperability can be achieved when a sound approach to applying HLA to the integration of disparate simulation systems is followed. This solution is based on a federation engineering approach employing the FEDEP across the diverse set of naval flight training systems. The proposal provides a well-tried and proven approach, discussing how VTC will capitalize on our past experiences to develop a Federation Application Integration Infrastructure (FAII) to provide interoperability between joint military training systems and simulations.
