Research abstract

THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DENSE, FAST SUPERCONDUCTING MEMORY TECHNOLOGY WILL FACILITATE THE INTEGRATION OF SUPERCONDUCTING ELECTRONICS INTO SPACE AND ELECTONIC WARFARE SYSTEMS. A SUPERCONDUCTOR BASED MAGNETIC MEMORY TECHNOLOGY IS PROPOSED WHICH CAN BE USED TO FABRICATE MULTIMEGABIT SUPERCONDUCTOR MEMORIES WITHOUT REQUIRING LARGE SCALE INTEGRATION OF JOSPEHSON JUNCTIONS. THIS MEMORY WELL SUITED FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING AND SPACE BASED APPLICATIONS BECAUSE IT IS INTRINSICALLY RADIATION HARD, CONSUMES NO POWER WHEN QUIESCENT, MAY BE THERMALLY CYCLED WITH NO DATA LOSS, OPERATES AT 77 K AND REQUIRES NO REFRESH CYCLES. THE MEMORY CELLS ARE BASED ON OLD STYLE CORE MEMORY WHICH USES SUPERCONDUCTING READ AND WRITE LINES AND DEPOSITED FERRITE FILMS AS THE DATA STORAGE ELEMENTS.
