Research abstract

NAVSEA recognizes the huge potential benefits that can' be realized through the development of high performance shock isolation systems utilizing advanced rheological fluids. In addition it is anticipated that future Navy ships will employ distributed Power Electronic Building Blocks (PEBBs) that are presently being developed by the office of Naval Research. In support of the trend toward more-electric ships, a program to develop, advanced Theological fluids, device structures, and control/power circuitry is proposed. The goal is to develop now rheological fluids concurrently with integrated mechatronic systems to achieve all the performance capabilities required by the present application. As part of the Phase I effort, Spectrum Research Corporation shall author user-interactive simulation software to identify the critical fluid parameters that need to,be improved before all the application requirements can be met. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed concept, a benchtop Theological recoil damping system shall be delivered to NAVSEA which shall lay the groundwork for accelerated commercialization through the SBIR Fast Track program.
