Research abstract

REFRIGERATORS SUPERCONDUCTOR Hi-Tc MAGNETS CRITICAL CURRENT COOLING MAGNETIC REFRIGERATORS UTILIZING SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS ARE VERY PROMISING FOR MANY APPLICATIONS (ex., COOLING SENSORS) DUE TO THEIR LONG-LIFE, SUBDUED VIBRATIONS, SMALL SIZE, LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOW COST. THE EFFICIENCY OF THESE REFRIGERATORS WILL DEPEND ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE MAGNETS. THE Hi-Tc SUPERCONDUCTORS OFFER SUBSTANTIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVED MAGNETS WITH HIGHER OPERATING TEMPERATURE (~100K) AND HIGHER CRITICAL MAGNETIC FIELDS (Hc2). TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS WILL REQUIRE Hi-Tc SUPERCONDUCTING FABRICATIONS AND MAGNETS WITH HIGHER CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITY. THESE WILL BE PREPARED BY PROPRIETARY PRE-FORMED TECHNIQUES WHICH CIRCUMVENT PROBLEMS WITH BRITTLE, LOW-CURRENT WIRE. THESE NEW Hi-Tc TECHNOLOGIES AND PROPRIETARY MAGNET DESIGNS WILL IMPROVE EFFICIENCY WHILE MINIMIZING SIZE, COST, POWER AND WEIGHT.
