Research abstract

THE DECISION AID SUPPORT ENVIRONMENT (DASE) PROJECT ADDRESSES THE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIGN ISSUES SURROUNDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ADA-BASED ENVIRONMENT SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATIONS OF DECISION AIDS. THE PROJECT WILL ANALYZE EXISTING AND ENVISAGED DECISION AIDS AND DECISION AID LANGUAGES IN ORDER TO DERIVE REQUIREMENTS ON THE DASE. THE SUITABILITY OF ADA FOR DECISION AID SUPPORT WILL BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED, AND MECHANISMS FOR INTERFACING ADA WITH OTHER DECISION AID LANGUAGES WILL BE EXAMINED. THE PHASE I EFFORT WILL ALSO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF INTEROPERABLE DECISION AID DATABASES AND USER INTERFACES THAT CAN BE EFFECTIVELY UTILIZED BY DECISION AIDS WRITTEN IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. THE DASE APPROACH WILL INTEGRATE PROCEDURAL LANGUAGES WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE LANGUAGES, USING EACH LANGUAGE WHERE IT IS BEST SUITED FOR DEVELOPMENT.
