Research abstract

?????Sandbags have been used for centuries as protective barriers from enemy attacks and natural threats such as flooding and wind. Traditional sandbags, despite their cost-effectiveness and local material utilization, pose significant challenges in terms of labor intensity and physical demands during the processes of material excavation, bag filling, and deployment. Moreover, conventional sandbag materials like synthetic polymers and burlap exhibit inherent limitations in durability, strength, and environmental impact. Natrx, Inc. presents the Rapid Aggregate Material FORmation with Cement Enhancement (RAMFORCE) system, a novel approach to constructing high-performance protective barriers in military and flood-prone environments.  RAMFORCE enables the field production of high performance defensive barriers while significantly reducing labor requirements and exposure risks for military personnel. The resulting protective barriers are engineered to have higher ballistic, blast, and flood resistance than existing barrier options available today. The system leverages unmanned excavation technology to autonomously gather settled solids and waste materials, thereby minimizing personnel exertion and exposure to threats. Pneumatic conveyance technology is utilized to transport materials directly to the deployment site, facilitating the construction of barriers in diverse terrains and challenging conditions without the need for manual handling or traditional heavy equipment. The RAMFORCE system is a lightweight, field-deployable system capable of producing two classes of protective barriers: RAMBAGs and RAMBLOCKs. RAMBAGs are engineered as high-performance alternatives to traditional sandbags, featuring enhanced strength, flame resistance, and puncture resistance, thereby offering superior protection and longevity.  RAMBLOCKs are unique cement composites that are made of up to 80% locally sourced sediments or waste materials. This not only promotes the efficient use of available resources but also contributes to sustainability by repurposing waste products. Overall, the RAMFORCE system is poised to revolutionize the field of protective barrier construction, offering versatile, efficient, and robust solutions for both military applications and flood defense.
