Research abstract

In response to NavyÆs GPS Interference Direction of Arrival (DOA) Initiative for User Purposes (GIDIUP), QuNav has set forth an innovative GIDIUP mechanization and initially demonstrated its feasibility via simulation analysis and experimental data processing in Phase I. To advance the technology readiness level (TRL) towards field transitioning, the Phase II effort is hereby proposed with the goal to prototype and demonstrate the GIDIUP system. Upon successful testing, GIDIUP can serve as a direction-finding sensor for surface and subsurface vessels to provide situational awareness of GPS jamming and spoofing threats to ship bridge and other ship systems via the Global Positioning System Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service (GPNTS). QuNavÆs GIDIUP mechanization utilizes a cascaded-parallel processing architecture where the jamming signal estimation and suppression module is placed ahead of the spoofing signal estimation and mitigation subsystem. The spoofing estimation subsystem has two parallel modules, one operating with known PRN codes (post-correlation spoofing estimation) and the other operating without knowing the PRN codes (codeless spoofing angular tracking). Our Phase I effort has developed and initially evaluated the GIDIUP signal processing mechanization. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that this mechanization can achieve the program objectives of DOA estimation accuracy of better than 1 deg for both azimuth and elevation angles. The proposed Phase II program will build on Phase I results to further mature the GIDIUP technology to TRL 6 as an end goal.
