Research abstract

MakaiÆs proposed EXMED Advanced C4 System provides the Defense Health Agency with the necessary means to test communication and interoperable network connectivity in forward operating command posts and medical facilities to enable health care delivery and enhance medical command and control (MEDC2) and medical logistics (MEDLOG). ĀĀĀSince 2020, Makai has been conducting Research & Development efforts on tactical 5G wireless communication technologies and systems. MakaiÆs Hardened Operational Network Unit (HONU) meets Phase I requirements and is currently assessed at a TRL-8.Ā HONU utilizes 5G and mobile LEO satellite communications (Starlink) to provide secure connectivity for a variety of applications, ranging from Disaster Recovery to tethered drones that can be deployed at the edge to provide mobile communications with access to Army applications, like command and control (C2) applications, while on the move.Ā ĀĀĀĀMakaiÆs proposal for this Direct to Phase II project is to leverage our HONU to build a more robust C4 System tailored to bridge communication gaps between expeditionary medical (EXMED) units, civilian and military brick-and-mortar medical facilities, and other healthcare providers. MakaiÆs EXMED Advanced C4 System enables integration testing of DHAÆs multiple health systems, including JOMIS, and aids in tracking patient movement in simulated austere and contested environments. ĀĀĀOur solution can connect to local private 5G networks and or create a new private 5G network (licensed/unlicensed), for real-time tactical C2/SA applications for (i.e. remote and perimeter ISR) for OTM dispersed command posts and vehicles.Ā At a minimum, MakaiÆs EXMED Advanced C4 System will be able to service overĀ60 simultaneous user connections accessing current and legacy systems within a 1 km radius, depending on the configuration.Ā MakaiÆs EXMED Advanced C4 System leverages COTS products and can be tailored to accommodate fluctuations in the number of End User Devices requiring network access.ĀĀĀMakaiÆs technical leadership team has expertise in commercial network engineering and DoD system integration.Ā By leveraging our experience and currently fielded HONU product, Makai is ready to build and deploy a robust research and development networking system enabling DHA to address communication and interoperability challenges.Ā
