Research abstract

The long-term goal of the USAF is to develop a mission engineering and modeling tool that can be used to evaluate the most appropriate combination of radar software and processing capabilities for multi-function digital AESA radar.   During Phase II of the effort, Eikon will adapt their existing software according to the development plan identified in Phase I resulting in a mission engineering and modeling tool that can be used to evaluate the most appropriate combination of radar software and processing capabilities to achieve USAF mission objectives. To realize a multi-function radar simulation, Eikon will also develop one multi-function sensor resource manager (MF-SRM) and one or two radar applications (or “app”).  An app is not required to include the full signal processing chain, but at minimum should include logic to interact with the MF-SRM and perform representative radar application logic. A successful proof-of-concept simulation will entail the MF-SRM managing two applications (either distinctly different apps or duplicates of the same app). Eikon will validate the accuracy of this tool by comparing the results to AFSIM-generated results. Once fully developed, Eikon will use this tool to identify potential multi-function configurations of digital AESA radars mapped to unclassified USAF mission sets by evaluating performance in each scenario.
