Research abstract

GIRD Systems proposes the development of the next generation software defined radio (SDR) processing architecture for the MIDS JTRS radio transceiver. The new transceiver will provide additional processing capabilities compared to existing transceiver cards, providing flexibility for future waveform and signal processing upgrades, and operate at reduced power. An initial trade study, covering the latest FPGA-based Direct RF components and many-core processors, will be conducted to establish the transceiver architecture. Based on the defined architecture, the transceiver card will be designed and prototyped in hardware for demonstration of the improved capabilities.Ā A waveform of interest will be ported to the transceiver to verify operation and quantify performance improvements over current MIDS transceiver technologies.
