Research abstract

Effective real-time, point-of-source biosurveillance is crucial for protecting against biological threats. However, current DNA sequencing technology lacks in-field analytical tools, resulting in delayed decision-making and limited intervention capabilities in tactical envrionments. This Phase I effort focuses on market research, generating digital blueprints, drafting bioinformatics software, creating user-friendly data analysis/reporting solutions, and identifying Phase II partners. The subsequent Phase II aims to prototype a portable sequencing platform that provides rapid and accurate threat analysis, clear reporting, and simplified interfaces. Aclid's bioinformatics pipeline utilizes compressed formats and tablet adaptability, optimizing performance. Developing a Nanopore-based fieldable sequencer and streamlining user interfaces will greatly enhance the warfighter's ability to detect, identify, and respond to biological threats in real-time in tactical scenarios.
