Research abstract

Electro-optic frequency combs are an important resource for emerging navigation, timing, and positioning applications. Critical attributes of a high-performance frequency comb include low Vpi, high power handling, low loss, and robust packaging. In this multi-phase STTR program, AdvR will utilize cascaded electro-optic modulators to generate a tunable frequency comb in the telecom c-band. Substrate and packaging will be chosen to allow for robust, long-term operation. The use of waveguide structures and traveling wave RF design allows for high bandwidth and tenability while maintaining a low Vpi. This work builds off AdvR’s commercial experience, leading to a high degree of confidence in the program.
