Research abstract
Our SBIR Direct to Phase II proposal, "Revolutionizing Recovery," aims to transform musculoskeletal injury (MSKI) care by introducing a digital design to a rapid manufacturing framework. This innovative approach personalizes orthopedic sports medicine braces and splints with minimal manual intervention, building upon the proven clinical efficacy and commercial viability of mign's digitally tailored spine and upper extremity bracing. The project extends these benefits to upper and lower extremity braces, enhancing Warfighter readiness by reducing the need for medical evacuation, accelerating MSKI recovery, and eliminating the logistics and inventory burden on military medical operations. Key Objectives: Advanced Digital Design: Enhance our proprietary digital design platform with cutting-edge mobile scan intake, corrective treatment algorithms, and user-friendly interfaces. This enables precise customization, ensuring an ideal fit based on each patient's unique anthropometric and functional requirements. Rapid Manufacturing: Refine and scale existing 3D printing material libraries and fabrication techniques. Optimize sustainable, decentralized manufacturing methods, exploring novel material combinations to achieve accelerated production targets without compromising product quality. Clinical Validation and Integration: Conduct rigorous laboratory and patient trials based on existing partnerships with leading healthcare institutions. Validate safety, efficacy, and patient outcomes of personalized hand/wrist and foot/ankle brace designs, facilitating seamless integration and scaling in the operating environment and clinical practice. Regulatory Compliance and Market Entry: Ensure compliance with industry standards and FDA regulations for Class I Exempt custom and prefabricated orthotics. Strategize adoption and integration plans for remote operations and medical treatment facilities, including partnerships with healthcare insurers to drive widespread access to our novel solutions. Expected Outcomes: Tailored Patient Care: Completion of this SBIR Phase II project will empower healthcare providers to offer personalized upper and lower extremity musculoskeletal braces and splints, optimizing mobility, comfort, and treatment outcomes. Streamlined Production: Advancements in additive manufacturing will significantly reduce production lead times and product complexity, enabling rapid response time and access to remote patients. Market Impact: The proposed innovations aim to disrupt the traditional, mass-produced musculoskeletal device market, providing a cost-effective, locally manufactured, scalable solution for personalized MSKI care. By achieving these objectives, our "Revolutionizing Recovery" initiative addresses unmet needs in remote musculoskeletal injury care, setting a new standard for mass personalization of MSKI devices. This SBIR Phase II proposal represents a pivotal step toward advancing transformative technologies to the frontlines of healthcare.
