Research abstract

The 162-104 project showed the FODBot to be a reliable and robust mechanical system for FOD clearing apron areas that is easy to use. The current design is well received by marine-corps personnel for basic FOD cleaning tasks. This follow-on effort proposes to enhance the Mechanical FODBot system with these major advancements, 1) Autonomous (unmanned) capabilities on the proven FODBot platform and 2) advanced FOD detection and geo-tagging system to enable creation of a FOD digital twin (a digitally-generated replica of each piece of FOD – containing key information about that FOD) that is generated in real-time and 3) integration into an existing airfield command and control system (Moog’s Digital Airfield Solutions)???????
