Research abstract

Lone Star Specialties is a U.S.-owned domestic manufacturer of coal tar and petroleum pitch for graphite electrodes, carbon anodes, specialty graphites for defense and aerospace, and refractory products; distillate oils for treatment of railroad ties, fence posts, and utility poles; and refined tars for paved asphalt surfaces and high-performance advanced materials. During this project, Lone Star will design and install the first phase of a distillation unit that will be dedicated to the production of pitch as a precursor for materials used in military applications. Lone Star has proven that our facility is capable of producing three grades of pitch used in military applications; this will ensure that the long-term supply of these pitches is not interrupted.
