Research abstract

Strain-tolerant solutions are sought for leading edge and control surfaces of hypersonic vehicles. SkyVision Sciences proposes to develop a coating for use on structural surfaces that offers greater than 5% strain while maintaining high oxidation resistance. The Phase I effort will be used to develop the coating technique and materials, apply them to both carbon composite and metal substrates and characterize their mechanical and thermal properties. A Phase II effort would scale the deposition technique and optimize the coatings effectiveness under simulated hypersonic flight conditions. Approved for Public Release | 24-MDA-11906 (16 Sep 24)
