Research abstract

Red 6 and its subcontractor will develop and execute a task-based work plan to meet the project objectives in a staged fashion. The first step is to understand the infrastructure and required system data/configuration to integrate ATARS into the T-45. Red 6 will also use information acquired during this effort and other data to develop a cost/benefit and return on investment analysis upon project completion. In collaboration with Navy personnel, Red 6 will develop the demonstration/test plan, apply for ATOs/certifications/waivers required to operate ATARS in the test/demonstration T-45, and integrate the final configuration ATARS into a Government furnished T-45, including provisions for required licensing of Red 6 technology. The integration will include two helmet-based optical components, one each for the pilot and back-seater, providing a shared augmented reality experience for both participants. Red 6 will provide support to the Navy for ground/airborne testing and demonstration of ATARS for the use cases, including user training on system operation; support for qualitative and quantitative assessments by test or instructor pilots and or other designated testers; support refined required technical specifications for ATARS for blended pilot training in the T-45 syllabus and developing lessons learned from the program, e.g. recommended process changes that will increase the efficiency of integration into other Navy aircraft.
