Research abstract

Triton Systems and its partners proposed to develop a family of CVI precursors for the production of ultrahigh temperature ceramic matrix composites.  In Phase I, we will develop syntheses for each precursor, fully characterize the resulting products, and establish their feasibility for use in CVI through measurement of melting, boiling, and decomposition temperatures and vapor pressure.  Further, we will perform initial demonstrations of CVD/I with these precursors.  Additional work will demonstrate the reproducibility and scalability of the precursors.  In Phase II, we will further scale the precursor production and fully demonstrate their reproducible synthesis.  Using these precursors, we will fully characterize their performance in CVD and transition these processes to CVI applications.
