Research abstract

Space infrastructures are relied heavily upon by the military community and modern society for day-to-day operations, including communication, navigation, tracking, and Earth observation. These space infrastructures play a crucial role in maintaining the information superiority of the US military over their adversary, by ensuring time-sensitive and accurate information are relayed to the required key stakeholder in time for decision making. These space assets are constantly threatened by collisions with debris, active and derelict satellites, and possibly by other adversary spacecraft.a   One of the technical challenges in reducing the threat against space assets is providing accurate characterization of available information in the space environment, otherwise known as Space Domain Awareness (SDA). SDA functions as a foundation for decision-making, such as appropriate courses of action (CoAs) to respond to any possible threats and safeguarding our space assets.ftPredicted Intent Classification of Approaching Space Objects (PICASO), to be developed by XAnalytix Systems, is a framework that will allow for the testing of different uncertainty representations to accurately classify the intent of an SO..PICASO takes in position, speed and attitude data for space objects and predicts future locations via propagation and determines historical patterns of behavior.  Intent models are derived for features and used to extract knowledge from the propagation/historical patterns of space objects.  PICASO uses the knowledge as input into uncertainty representations that provide a probabilistic measure of the space object's intent.
