Research abstract

The primary objective of this Phase II.5 proposal is to further develop and flight test a lightweight passive power factor compensation unit utilizing advanced high-temperature magnetic materials and design techniques to achieve power quality improvement for a 65 kVA, 115V, 400-Hz aircraft power system. Based on identified system challenges in the F-18 Super Hornet platform, the compensation system must correct an existing leading power factor to lagging or unity.Ā This activity will focus on the design and development of ten pre-production compensation units along with performing SWAP-C and aircraft integration analyses. The option effort will support aircraft integration and flight tests.
