Research abstract
BAOWOLF is a proposed kinetic last ditch personal defensive munition to counter sUAS and FPV UAS. BAOWOLF achieves a high probability of kill during engagements with sUAS and FPV UAS. The BAOWOLF system works similar to a shotgun against aerial targets; it fires a large volume of effectors into a large area in order to score a kill. BAOWOLF however is not a weapon system like a shotgun but a single use munition. BAOWOLF attaches to existing weapons and uses their optics and fire control to aim and operate the munition. BAOWOLF is designed to be simple and quick to use, and to give users a high probability of kill against their target even in stressful and rapid engagements. BAOWOLF munitions fire 9x the shot load of a standard 12ga round, giving a much increased chance of hitting and killing the target. Because BAOWOLF is not a separate weapon, it has a much lower logistic footprint than a shotgun and can be brought to bear more rapidly. BAOWOLF is designed to function as the innermost layer of a multi-layered cUAS system, and to achieve hard kill against threats which have gotten through other defensive systems and layers. BAOWOLF gives US ground forces a much needed last ditch option to protect themselves and their teams.
