Research abstract

Mattrix's VOLT display technology centers around a unique pixel structure that seamlessly integrates three crucial components: the drive transistor, the storage capacitor, and the OLED stack into a unified single device. This novel vertical design overcomes stability issues seen in traditional thin film transistors (TFTs), resulting in ultra-simple pixel circuit that achieves an exceptional high emissive aperture ratio, even in a small pixel size, enabling high resolution OLED displays. The unique operational mechanism empowers VOLT pixels to reach exceptional brightness while maintaining TFT stability and minimizing power consumption. Additionally, the simplified pixel design can be easily fabricated and significantly reduces display weight. These synergistic features make VOLT technology ideal for applications like MR displays. The vertical orientation enables the use of cost-effective organic semiconductors, replacing process-sensitive and costly inorganic materials and enhancing operational stability. The VOLT architecture also supports variable refresh rates, further reducing power consumption. The switching transistor in VOLT technology is identical to that used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs), enabling the repurposing of existing LCD backplane manufacturing infrastructure. This reduces capital investment risks and tooling costs, fostering cost-effective domestic display production. These features add up to a transformational solution that will enable the cost-effective production of high performance, secure, OLED displays in the US.
